Wow. A judge in a state you've never been to can destroy your email account for something you didn't do and had no idea was happening. Personally, my spam folder is full of fake bank ads. I assume a legitimate one would end up in there just the same. Should everyone take each of those fake ones seriously?

Very scary. Time to download my email I guess. |

Most people use the word Ironic improperly and I could be one of them.
Is it ironic, if the gov't refuses to release the text of a contract and proposal related to gov't transparency? Is it ironic if the gov't finally the proposal, but blacks out large segments of said document? Again, this is not the Bush White House that was supposedly evil, but the shiny new Obama White House, where citizens come first. The contract is for the design and creation of a website where citizens can follow the flow of budget money in the Federal budget. Some of the blacked out sections of the IT contract include how the gov't contractor can sub-contract the work and to what countries those contracts will be sent to. Hopefully, that means every website architect in the USA is working 100% and that's why we need to outsource to India.
Blah. What happened to honesty and personal responsibility? |

Pasted below (formatted poorly) is the text of section 1233. It doesn't say the gov't is going to kill you. Look, I hate HR3200, I hate it. I hate it. The bill will increase the cost of my healthcare, as well as my taxes. But the God damn thing doesn't say it's going to kill you. It'll kill my wallet, but it's not going to kill Grandma. Also, for the record, Grandma still can't run Linux. I could be stating an opinion, of course, but I think the text speaks for itself, until it reaches a judge somewhere. Until then, it stands on its own. IF YOU'RE ABOUT TO DIE, and you ask your Doctor how to handle it, the visit will be paid for, completely, by the gov't. You are entitled to one of these visits every 5 years, or if your health suddenly changes, or every 3 years once it's changed. BTW, it does mention that they'll direct you toward hospice. As far as I've heard, hospice is actually pretty decent. In home care and meds, without doctor and pharmacy visits. Some people do recover from Hospice and go on to resume their lives. I can't speak from a personal experience. Some people think that "hospice" is Soylent Green death camp. I'm fairly certain it's not, but if I find out otherwise, I'll let you know. (Official and unedited copies of the bill are available from the government's many departments, including the energy dept. http://energycommerce.house.gov/Press_111/20090714/aahca.pdf )

We had a cool lightning storm come through here on Thursday night. We had the perfect vantage point to watch it come in on the top of a hill. I used the camera on continuous shoot to capture these two lightning bursts. Unfortunately, it killed the camera in the process. Poor thing!

The rainy weather we've been experiencing all year finally broke for the holiday weekend. Took the doors off of the Jeep for the first time and took the roof completely off for only the 5th time. Both were much easier than I expected!

Went to Star Trek: The Exhibition in Philly last week. It was great. Got to see a lot of props, costumes, set pieces and ship models up close. There was also a full size recreation of the Enterprise-D bridge and Captain Kirks chair from the Original Series. Pretty neat. Had a great time and it was nice to travel for a couple days.

My blog starts about 4.5 years ago. I just reread it to see what I had been up to. I'm happier now than I have ever been in my life. As I read each of those articles, I understand that at each of those points I was the happiest I had ever been then, too! Reconnecting with Thomas, "losing" a presidential election, crashing my black Jeep, buying a car, quitting a job, "winning" a presidential election, buying a black Jeep. 10 years ago, I started my website, hullbreach.com It's a shame it didn't record any history, but it's fun knowing it's there.

Cool Jeep, eh? Taken by my lovely girlfriend on a car ride in early April. The photo was taken in Naugatuck, CT in the parking lot of a chain donut shop. Although it wasn't the first trip with the roof off since purchasing the Jeep in 2008, it was the first extended trip with my lady. Yes, jackets were required for travel.

"You raise them, you do the best job you can, you teach them all the values, but even coming from the best family, with two parents ... they're children," Dubosar said. "Adults make bad decisions, never mind a 14-year-old." - Hartford Courant 2009-04-11
Yeah, really? There are plenty of one-parent households where you hope the children would make the proper choice. She probably, and I'm just guessing here, didn't want to climb down the lattice work, or that she had already changed clothes, or that she was absolutely afraid you'd beat the living shit out of her. Is that good parenting? You two parent fuck. Screw you. If you have so much parenting power, why not help her friends and their parents? They're almost dead! No one will do anything. Unlike the Bristol incident that left parents on school tours trying to prevent a tragedy. THEY are one and two-parent heroes.

Another Obama screw to Patrick. The new car tax credit begins Feb 15th, rather than January 1st. When the idea was being shopped around, they said it could extend as far back as November 1, 2008. They got America's support, and then changed the proposal. nice. The new version of the tax break will cost the gov't less. Eh, it's all a wash anyway. The estimated value of the dollar (in 2008 money) at the end of an assumed second Obama term.... about $0.64 Nice.

Drove the Jeep today for the first time without a roof. It was exactly like the old Jeeps. I didn't feel like I had enough secure storage areas. Secure in this case means as much to keep from blowing away, as it does from being kidnapped. Saw my Mom briefly and cruised back home before the sun went down.

After having a close call fumbling with the cell phone while driving on Saturday, I finally setup the bluetooth in the Jeep. Chrysler doesn't install the microphone in any of their convertible vehicles, because they can't stand behind the poor quality that can occur during top-down operation. However, they are more than willing to provide the components to complete the installation if the user desires. I desired. I picked up the parts at the dealer, and turned down the invitation to have them install it for $100. It was a simple process. Removed the center portion of the dash, pull the radio out to connect the mic to the back of the radio, then route the cable around to a place that it could hear my voice. Made a test call to a tall, thin, blonde lady and asked for a report. Sounds like I'm calling from the empty creamed corn can. Hmm, well, it is a speaker phone...in a truck. I'll take it! The nice thing with this system: voice recognition control of the radio, GPS and of course, the cell phone. Added some names to the address book, asked the GPS to take me to a few locations, and finally, asked the radio to read off the name of the Playboy station on Sirius. Hot. HOT. Yeah, the VR voice is a chick's voice. Nice.

When considering the price, at least.
Was curious about Bluetooth audio, and couldn't get anyone to lend me their Bluetooth earpiece (eww?). Hit up the Best Buy and found a helpful blue shirt who led me to Insignia Bluetooth stereo headphones. $26. Built in rechargeable battery including the charger in the package. Pair it up to 8 devices supporting either the 2-way profile or the stereo profile. It automatically switches between them as needed. One of each can be connected at a time (so like your phone and your ipod..or for iPhone users, then your iPhone and your netbook) Has remote control buttons on the earpiece. Play/Pause, next, last, fast forward, rewind, volume up, volume down. Sent back to the current device. Able to start a call from them, especially if phone supports voice control. I was able to connect to my laptop and stream radio and wander all over the house wirelessly and have audio everywhere. Damn spoiled. They'll be great at work, where I doubt the cubicle farm will block the signal as I walk to the copier and to bother neighbors.

I just found out that I share the bulk of my phone number with Andy's Tent rentals in Minnesota and with a singles club in Fort Meyer Florida. I don't know if I should feel flattered or not.
Before 1975, AT&T didn't believe that people could remember 7 digits of a phone number. They created a system of neighborhood names, followed by 5 numbers so that it would roll off the tongue easier. The neighborhood KLondike didn't exist in any area system, hence today's imaginary 555 city code used in movies and TV. Except, of course, 555-1212 which is 411 in a lot of areas.

I usually post this stuff sooner, but I purchased a new Jeep in December. It's close to my last one. The car reached the end of lease, so I turned it in.
The original Jeep was named Bessie, the black Jeep was named Gracie, and with the help of my friends and family, this one is named Elsie. This is her coming out of the car wash this evening.
My friend calls it the luxury Jeep. It's got a lot of fancy stuff, compared to my previous Jeeps. It has GPS and remote start and an alarm system!

Been on the highway at 8am or 5pm lately? It's dead stop. You know there's a reason, because it's not normally like this. Finally you come across one of those yellow flashing signs. Finally! Some feedback on why I'm stuck in traffic:
"Over The Limit; Under Arrest"
WHAT? Did you post these signs to tell me not to drink and drive? Does anyone forget?
"Buckle Up; Or go Down town"
Huh!? More gov't babysitting?
Looks like some people didn't take too kindly to being reminded of such things. http://www.courant.com/news/nationworld/nation/wire/sns-ap-highway-signs-zombies,0,276410.story They're reprogramming the signs to say other things. Now, you have to be within wireless range for a good amount of time to hack these signs, from what I understand. I guess if you're sitting in traffic, and the sign doesn't tell you why...then heck why not. The gov't actually came out and said this was a bad idea. What if there really were zombies, people would start to think the signs are still kidding people. WHAT? Seriously! Holy Crap! Is this really a 'boy cried wolf' situation?
Like anything else, it's not yours, don't mess with it. However, maybe this will make the DOT stop and think about how they're actually using the signs.

| » Less Mail |
The postmaster has once again suggested that we lose a day of mail delivery to our homes. They say that their costs are fixed, even as demand drops. Apparently Internet mail order and Netflix are not enough to make up the loss of personal letters moving through the mail. Netflix is the one piece of mail that I look forward to receiving, and losing the ability to receive a movie another day of the week is disappointing. In fact, I was hoping they were going to work with the USPS to find a way to get movies moving on Sundays. In fact, in today's news, Netflix announced they were testing opening their warehouses to sorting and moving movies on Saturdays. If the postal service is effective in getting a cutback approved, I hope they find a way to balance it. For instance, my local post office is open 7 days a week, but there is nothing to pick up there, just drop off. What if they provided Sunday PO Box stuffing, or Sunday Netflix pickup? Go to the counter, say your address, get your stuff. Or, more useful for most folks, at least a year or two without a stamp price increase. Packages went up 10% on January 19th, and 'normal' mail is scheduled to go up 2 cents in May. In fact, by law, it has to go up less than inflation, but it does seem to cost more and more every year.
Enjoy the snow!
