Watering Hole Closed
THIS is the reason why the newspapers are failing.
Multiple local locations of a major chain restaurant closed in the past month, and it wasn't on the news and it wasn't in the newspaper. And they can't figure out why no one is buying media anymore.
Dumb asses.
Applebees locations throughout Connecticut have closed recently, including Newington, and Waterbury. Was it in the news? Sort of. In an article about the Waterbury store closing, in the local Waterbury paper, they specifically say that the Newington store is remaining open. As we found on Friday night, it's closed. Very closed. Signs down and branding removed closed.
A Google search for Applebees Newington Closed or one for Applebees Newington Closing shouldn't come up with no relevant results. It should have news articles from major Connecticut news sources with information for the consumer. We drove 25 minutes to get there, just to have to go to 99. Which we have here in town and didn't really need to drive to find a location of!
And why the heck do restaurants with a perpetual 20min wait for a table close anyway? TL Cannon, can't you manage your money?

Blah!

I signed up for a free 2 week no obligation subscription to the citizen. It's been six or eight weeks now, and I get it every day. I keep forgetting to email them, but still, come on! :P

I had my paper subscription off and on for about 7 of the 12 months in 2008. It's cancelled again. I watched the house down the street burn down, a road be closed for 2 months, local stores open and closed, major political developments occur and never make the paper. I mean, what else is the local paper for? Classifieds? Is it really for AP articles? That's great if you've given up on marketing to anyone under 50.

Personally, I hardly find it news (new - s) that a chain is doing poorly or closing. It appears they all are.

True.
A big CT news story for 2008 was the gift card issue. They could have at least published it in the light of "if you had an Applebee's gift card, use it now". I mean, you have an Applebees in your local market, one of the few chain restaurants in the area. Is it open? Are you sure?
